CRISPY CHICKEN AND WAFFLES WITH HABANERO AND TOMATILLO HOT SAUCE

 

Sweet meets spicy in this irresistible Crispy Chicken and Waffles recipe. Golden fried chicken is coated in a rich buttery hot sauce glaze and served over fluffy waffles for the perfect balance of crispy, sweet and spicy flavours

Why This Hot Sauce

Our Habanero and Tomatillo hot sauce combines the fruity heat of habanero chilis with the fresh tanginess of tomatillos, creating a perfectly balanced flavour that pairs beautifully with fried chicken and waffles. It's also perfect for burgers, sandwiches, tacos, grilled chicken and breakfast dishes that need an extra kick

Ingredients: 

  • 200g chicken thighs, cut into two pieces
  • 50g plain flour
  • 1 egg
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 30g butter
  • 100ml Habanero & Tomatillo hot sauce
  • Fresh thyme

Serve with:

  • Waffles

Recipe Tips:

  • Double-dip the chicken in flour for an extra crispy coating
  • Fry in small batches to keep the oil temperature consistent

Method:

  1. Season the flour with salt and black pepper.
  2. Coat the chicken in the flour, dip into the beaten egg, then coat in the flour once more.
  3. Deep fry the chicken for 5–6 minutes until golden brown, crispy and fully cooked.
  4. In a separate pan, melt the butter and stir in the Habanero and Tomatillo hot sauce along with the fresh thyme. Remove from the heat and mix until smooth.
  5. Toss the fried chicken through the hot sauce glaze until evenly coated.
  6. Serve immediately over warm waffles
